Faux Updo

Lauren Maxwell’s stunning updo is perfect for an evening on the red carpet or a high school prom. To achieve this Faux Updo, gather hair from the top of your ears to the top of the crown. This will be the first ponytail. The remaining hair will be gathered and put into a hairband creating the second ponytail. These will stay vertical, close on top of the other and will remain holding the hair together. Take small sections from the first ponytail to curl with your desired size of curling iron. After every curl, use a bobby pin halfway of the hair length to pin the hair underneath the band. This will create volume and hide the band away from sight. Continue until both ponytails are completed.
French Twist

To recreate a french twist such as the one pictured, stylist Richard Rodriguez says it’s as easy as one, two, three! First, a base is created by backcombing, or teasing hair with a rat-tail comb. These can be found at any drugstore for a relatively inexpensive price. Next, create a part at the middle of your eyebrow and three inches from your hairline. Smooth your hair from your front hairline to the back. This hair will be pinned down with a line of bobby pins from the back of the neck to the crown of the head. The remaining hair will be combed, smoother and then twisted over these pins. Richard says that a funnel will be created with the correct twist. If the left side is smoothed, the twist should be done clockwise; counter-clockwise for right. The hair ends will be tucked underneath with bobby pins.
